The Ladies of Thorne Bay Beat the Winter Blues with BUNKO This
monthly event is most popular in the winter when the daylight hours are
short and it is time to get together for a little fun. The October
Bunko is very popular as the “moms” get to dress up in Halloween
costumes and have a night out.

miles of State Highway clean. Jim Wilson of Prince of Wales Gas and
president of The Thorne Bay Business Association organizes the
bi-yearly cleanup required by members of the nationwide Adopt-a-Highway
Programs.
In conjunction with the Highway Cleanup, The Business
Association enlists the help of the Thorne Bay School students and
teachers in picking up trash around town. A hot dog feed, served by

Boggs, Battle of the Bands, Carnival Booths, Human Foos Ball

those coming from out of town. If you would like to help out in
this event or have any ideas that could help us out, E’mail tbba@thornebayalaska.net or call the Prince Of Wales Chamber Office at 907-755-2626.

Saturday November 12 for the third year in a row the governors,
Christmas tree was cut and bought back to Thorne Bay for shipment to
Juneau. The annual gathering, headed up by the Thorne Bay Business

of the City of Thorne Bay and the Thorne Bay Ranger District of the
USFS, a beautiful tree was selected in a snowy stand of lodge pole
pine. Northland Services transported the tree, free of charge, so
it would be ready for the Open House at the Governor’s Mansion on
December 6th . The second tree in the photograph it is a surprise
for the Governor himself from Mrs. Murkowski She decorated it with
the traditional Silver & Blue of his family.

DECEMBER 2005
Christmas Lighting Contest Winners
This
was the biggest lighting contest ever in Thorne Bay with 19 registered
for judging and many other lighted homes throughout. Homes in
town, on the south side and out on the bay competed for the
prizes. As the Thorne Bay Business Association judges viewed the
homes, they agreed that more prizes needed to be awarded. This
year’s awards totaled $830.00.
A new category was created, Best
Overall Display - $100 for Roger & Sue McCormick’s outstanding
display. Their home is located on the south side and well worth
the drive to see the fantastic fantasy land that grows every
year. Winners in the 5 original categories were awarded $75 each:
Best Theme was Dan Hayes Sir’s theme park, Most Attractive was a tie
between Kim & Laura Straight and Earl and Chris Nash, Most Wattage
‘Pazzazz” went to Chris and Terri Gould, and Most Original and Effort
to Create, Vern and Terri Redding. Russ Shafer was awarded the
Best Decorated Boat in the harbor.
The number of Honorable
Mentions just had to be expanded to include more homes this
year. They each received $20 to help pay the light
bill!!! The 9 Honorable Mentions this year were, Jim Beard, Fritz
& Donna Lacour, Jim & Judy Moffit, Clinton O’Malley, Chris
& Tiana Nelson, Charlie Straight, Rainbow Straight, Patrick Tierney
and Terry & Carol Wilburn.
Thanks to over 50 people that
took the time to vote for a People’s Choice. Dan Hayes, Sr. earned
the $100.00 to help add to his Theme Park with the talking Santa,
Frosty and the pals that decorate their corner.

Community Christmas Dinner Success Estimates
are that over 200 people showed up for the annual Community Christmas
Dinner Saturday December 10th in Thorne Bay. Generous donations of
fresh baked ham and rolls from the Thorne Bay Market, turkey & ham
from individuals and the dishes brought by all, made for a wonderful
holiday meal. The EMS Squad, The Thorne Bay Business Association,
the Thorne Bay School, and the City of Thorne Bay made this a great
event. Entertainment by 3 local bands, the Thorne Bay School, and
a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus rounded out the evening. Thanks
to everyone that made the community Christmas Dinner a highlight of
2005.
