News & Events Thorne Bay Adopt a Highway Program The Thorne Bay Business Association has contracted with the State of Alaska Department of Transportation to adopt the Thorne River Highway from Thorne Bay to Control Lake. The Association has partnered with 17 other local businesses and organizations to do the actual cleanup. Participants will receive credit for their service with a name plaque keyed by number to the community map in the sign plaza at the new Welcome To Thorne Bay Sign. About 80% of the initial cleanup has taken place. What a pleasing experience it is to drive our world class highway when it is all dressed up. We can all do our part by securing garbage that is hauled to the landfill and not littering! Many thanks to Doug Russell from Alaska DOT for his help in making this program a reality. The list of participants follow.
